the next release on our label is coming from berlin based nick beringer and we are very happy to welcome him on board. we have been following his work for quite a while now, so we were more than happy to receive this demo from him. the three tracks that we have chosen are a bit different from his usual productions and are working well in different situations or hours of a set.

originally released in 1986 under luis delgado s cult imprint -el cometa de madrid- produced by luis delgado (finnis africae, mecánica popular) and performed by patricia escudero, this beautiful record dives into erik satie s compositional work thru an experimental optic. entirely recorded on synthesizers, and making heavy use of fx and timbral manipulation, this recording brings out a satie that s never heard before. additional info: -this record was remastered and cut from the original tapes. however, those tapes were highly affected for what is known as the sticky shed syndrome, and were very deteriorated. even though that was professionally taken care of, it was a very long process to get a result that exceeded our standards to be pressed. that being said, there are very few parts were you might find an slight change on sound that was impossible to eliminate completely, due to the above mentioned issu

utopia cloak arrives on film with six track ep, marina gardens. utilising both electronic & acoustic components, the british producer crafts hazy, dynamic electronica with a decidedly emotive bent. the music explores a curious production aesthetic - at once half sunk and at the same time gloriously crisp and direct. caustic drum machine hits underpin the majority of the work, compete with polyrhythmic rolls & glitches, while softly warping synth lines occupy the majority of the remaining sonic space. rather than working explicitly with nostalgia, utopia cloak makes more subtle references to the classic sounds of yore - riffing on downtempo & idm with gentle and considered nuance, eking out arcane hooks & rich melodies with a pleasing focus on compositional structure & songcraft. contrast is the key here, though - and utopia cloak works hard to find the balance between metallic per-cussion strikes and wide-angle instrumental elements, avoiding chaos in favour of a lush, rewarding lis-tening experience.

coming next from adult only: the repress of one of the most sought-after 12s from the label back catalogue. ao19: “formula express – main course” was originally released in 2002 and featured guillaume la tortue, jef k and chris carrier.
this is actually some of the last records ever produced by the mysterious guillaume la tortue, one of the pioneer of electronic music in france, who’s quoted by laurent garnier in his infamous “electrochoc” book as one of his main influence back in the days.

the record opens on the “main course”: a classic tech-house number with a beautiful 909 beat and a tasteful use of various samples and fx all through the track. the funky vocals still sound fresh today but the secret here (as often with chris carrier’s related work) is the groove – the kind of groove that reminds you summer days in the park while the strong bass-line announces already the next track.
on the flip, “starter” stands out as the perfect dancefloor killer with an infernal groove and a real fat analog bass-line that will keep you moving whether you want it or not. add just a few crispy tribal percussions on a classic raw 909 beat and you got the simplest and dubbiest song of the record but also the most efficient dancefloorwise.
the last cut, “apple pie”, might be the deepest of them all. spacy melodies and trippy vocals in the background make you first feel like you’re chillin on some extraterrestrial beach far away from earth. it starts as a nice breakbeat building the atmosphere before slowly evolving into a more 4-4esque tech-house with the bass coming in only after a couple of minutes. even if the sound was resolutely analogic, the whole ep is extremely well produced with a special care for details. at many levels this three-track ep is a landmark in the label history.

yugen’s third entry, laurine, arrives courtesy of los angeles-based producer and these things take time label-head b. hayes. at just 22 years old, hayes has packed remarkable perspective into this immersive deep-house four-tracker. it’s the work of a true participant. as if hayes work as a dj, producer, and label owner wasn’t enough, he has also put in time as a diy party promoter (he threw the beloved like i, love u parties that used to go down in the chinatown area of chicago) and a production assistant at chicago dance institution smart bar. the sum of all these parts is hayes impeccable ability to balance functionality with sonic taste.

four years after his breakthrough, max graef returns to tartelet records with his second solo album, “lo siento mucho pero no hablo tu idioma”. a dungeon dub symphony in four parts, “lo siento mucho pero no hablo tu idioma” is an album’s album. brimming with new and old guests, interludes and bonus skits, it’s a consummate sketchbook of graef’s most unique music to date. “every bit of music or work represents the mood and skills of a certain period,” he says.

the elusive producer nortasun hasn’t released a record since his debut one through saft back in 2016. after two years, it’s time for a follow up which is fittingly named “two”. the track titles also resume in a fashionable manner with the opening track being titled: “untitled 3”. on this track, nortasun introduces a firm rhythm that is supported by the impossibly beautiful strings that serve as the tracks key element and appear throughout. next up is the antonzap remix. antonzap doesn’t do the stereotypical remix take on the original. his version is dub laden, otherworldly, and only implements miniscule pieces from the original take. with just under 7 minutes, the remix version is a true sonic voyage.
on the b-side, nortasun takes a more dubbed out approach to modern day house music. “untitled 4” is a work of precision. the carefully crafted hats and dub elements sizzle throughout the entire track and help the track morph into a stunning piece of dance floor music around the four minute mark. nortasun cleverly introduces a thumping bass that changes up the mood for the entire work.

frigio consistently plumb the depths of electronics to find new material, and this time the madrid imprint has unearthed, in the murky currents, a real gem. tecwaa is the solo project of york based producer paul fawcett, a musician who discovered his sound in the british warehouse parties of the early nineties and went on to nurture it with movie scores, detroit techno and homegrown electronica. his debut brings together three pieces of original machine music alongside a very special remix. the menacing -the eighth circuit- broods into being. looming synthwork is further darkened by distant vocals, house percussion keeping time in this sinister opener. -mantra & machine- has similar attributes. adopting clean rhythms, the track refuses to sit comfortably in any genre pigeonhole as tecwaa weaves a work of cerebral depth. charles manier introduces the flip with his take on -fervour-, tadd mullinix returning to frigio for the first time since his superb remix as jtc of juanpablo s -dream- in 2010. a funk laden work of hip hop breaks and industrial distortion where manier explores blackened moods and horrorshow grooves. the original of -fervour- closes, showing another side of fawcett s style, bpms drop as foundations are laid bare in this stark conclusion.

new zealander julien dyne is a multi-instrumentalist with a long and impressive history of collaborative, live and solo musicianship. best known for his solo work on bbe and having worked with the likes of theo parrish, steve spacek, andreya triana and lord echo - one of soundway’s most successful artists. dyne has also accumulated a number of accolades over the course of a 10-year career including but not exclusive to being hotly tipped by both moodymann and gilles peterson.
dyne’s new project for 2018 is an 11-track lp on miles cleret’s extolled soundway label. demonstrating a shift in gears and movement toward a more uptempo, afro inspired sound ‘teal’ melds instrumental flair with astute production and a persistent grain of impassioned, effortless soul. the album features fellow new zealanders lord echo and mara tk, long term band-mate ladi6, fat freddy’s drop trumpeter toby laing, plus australian vocalist tim guy and jazz luminaries jonathan crayford and john bell. this is a body of work for the listener and the dancer alike with a mood as fitting for headphones as it is for the floor, with the double vinyl album cut loud at 45 rpm.

russia s underground party and podcast series abcd (any body can dance) have decided to launch their own label and geo-referencing has become a major aspect in the choice of artists for the first release. xan and honeälome are from one provincial town of votkinsk, which character left a solid imprint on the work of both musicians. experimental yet atmospheric house grooves with electronica influences and leftfield breaks for your listening pleasure!

almost one year in the making, bulgaria s outstanding techno talent lands his return to drumcode with a four-track ep. timmo (aka valeri ivanov) doesn t do things in half measures. since the release of his excellent system ep last year and muzik , his inclusion on a-sides vol.6, he s committed himself to crafting, refining and polishing a quartet of cuts inspired by the cosmic realms beyond planet earth. titled meteorite, its release marks 10 years since he first began producing and stakes its claim as a resounding career highlight with tracks already highlighting gigs for adam beyer at tobacco dock, awakenings, future kappa festival and junction 2. beginning with the title track, the streamlined work throbs with a searing synthetic pulse. black moon sees the ep land its first blow, kicking with a mixture of undulating synths and understated hoovers. spacetime stays true to its name delivering intergalactic techno vibes. cosmos concludes the work, taking us into extra-terrestrial dancefloor territory, with a barrage of trippy synth work and a melodic underbelly the makes the track both beautiful and heavy-hitting in equal measure.

deru aka benjamin wynn is an emmy award winning american composer and music producer. deru’s last record, 1979, dealt with individual human emotions. his new project, torn in two, zooms out and deals with human existence as a whole. it finds feelings of frustration, dissociation and anger, but from a high vantage that affords perspective and allows the project to include acceptance, beauty and tranquility. torn in two is set for release on october 19th via friends of friends (anenon, shlohmo, perera elsewhere). the music lives in evolving landscapes of violence and beauty, with compositions that shape-shift, flutter, and decimate one s sense of time and place. the album is a collection of microtonal pieces where the pitches were derived from acoustic instruments, and processed woodwind and brass recordings. both represented new directions for wynn, and the results are pieces that are more dynamic and full-spectrum than his previous body of work. they explode into walls of distortion and recede into quiet acoustics.

after a few years on hiatus, one electronica has gone all out in with a heavy debut 4 tracker from new member thought camera. the young belfast born producer who has been very busy in the studio putting together an arsenal of electronic weapons has also enjoyed an increase in popularity and profile in the local scene due to his hard work and commitment to the cause. with such a strong release about to drop in the next few weeks and with more unreleased material on its way this guy is worth keeping an eye on as a rising talent. without using too many bullshit analogies – this is release is simply dancefloor bliss and a djs dream that will be keep at the front of a record box for years to come and could be a favourite among various styles. the title track astral pilot comes in strong with spatial glitchy electronic chatter and tubular echoes that are pretty damn haunting. headspace comes in on a2 which is the antithesis of serenity and meditation that the name suggests. this acidic jack track is upbeat and laden with bass bleeding all over the place. flip it over and you have lifeforms on the b1 which is the most technical track on the release which ebbs and flows between solemn and sombre leaving you emotionally twisted yet intrigued this is one to look out for! obsession which aptly depicts this track a stalker in the night, haunting, imposing, friday 13th shit. not for the faint hearted.

in the first release of rome based nvda, cosimo damiano brings 4 tracks together between jungle, techno and ambient. the audiovisual work traces the mythological imagery recalled by the etymology of its name (diana nemorense the pre-roman goddess of hunting), and its mood, which at times takes a dramatic turn, with the individual tracks transmitting a dark and nostalgic sensitivity.

this va release is a result of good relations and work with friends. it’s been a while we were preparing it and it’s the most long-awaited release of the label. 50-50 ukrainian and russian ideas, absolutely east energy. very good for the dance floors.

det ar grymt i norr is a compilation of exclusive tracks by artists reflecting the contemporary swedish underground electronic music scene: alvar, celldod, dissocio modus trans, hjarnkultur, agent side grinder, kinder aus asbest, aemit and yabibo hazurfa (special scandinavian letters not included). the title of the compilation, swedish for it s grim up north describes the atmosphere perfectly - in swedish, grymt also means cool. the gloomy cover was designed by erik soderberg. subtitled swedish synthetic darkness, the music on the album is intense, hard and cold at first listen but boiling with emotions underneath the surface. expect industrial, ebm, coldwave, acid and everything on the spectrum between electro and ambient. thank you for the music.

hijacked records detroit is feeling inspired after hearing new work from one of our favourite allies in techno, jules wells. we felt it was our duty to deliver this to the people, three new productions from jules with a guest remix from our own antwon faulkner. please enjoy - -silent orchestra.- the title track from jules really set the bar for this release. jules really understands story telling with music and this track transports you to a time in techno that was both hopeful and beautifully heart breaking. a persistent chord progression is wrapped in celestial synth harmonies filing up the space all around you and reaching in. that classic clap is underpinned with a touch of acid, creating an edge. at the 4:33 mark an enchanting and haunting sign wave tells a melodic tragedy. strings come in delicately but wash over you completely. this track is both stunning and devastating.

check b1 , played by marcel dettmann, amelie lens... the first of three samplers, comprised of selected tracks taken from spencer parker s new album, dance music out via his own label work them records. “there was no real concept behind the album, all i knew is that i wanted to do something honest. the tracks i make are the tracks i play in my sets and tracks i want people to dance to - that s where the title comes from.- - spencer parker. part one of the sampler opens with it was just a dream , a ghostly cauldron of glitches, bleeps and sound bites that locks you into a dazed state of hypnosis. next up, the oh hits with a taste of classic house, marrying emotive stabs, a tough kick and fizzing ride cymbals. on the b side, you re under my control now takes the sound industrial combining a kraftwerk-esque metronomic breath with rapid fire toms and a dynamic kick. absolutely raving closes out the first of parker s dance music samplers offering a rave leaning techno weapon that wouldn t be out of place in the hallowed grounds of berghain.

approaching complexity is tangent’s sophomore album release for n5md, a label that has seen accomplished releases from the likes of near the parenthesis, bvdub, and loess among others. throughout its nine offerings, the record features a gorgeous contemplative piano that hangs in the air amidst static clicks and dense atmospheres. its delicate touch feels both melancholic and stirring, as exemplified on tracks “equilibrium i (ii & ii)” and “awaken.” the latter cut is a fascinating work comprised of nearly inaudible whisper-song vocals and swelling ambience, its waves a thick froth of a toppled surf underneath tickled ivory. like the rise and fall of a heavy chest, this sound leads to the track’s conclusion, an elongated departure of breath.
